Laboratory upgrade at the fieldstation 2009
For the first time since it's construction in the late 1970's, the Laboratory building at the field station is undergoing extensive re-development. Stage 1, almost completed, includes:-
a separate work area for students/visitors with internet access
new wet laboratory areas
new laboratory benches and research facilities
improved lecture facilities, including IT facilities
new archival storage areas
Long term plans for the laboratory's upgrade are dependent on potential sponsorship and financial backing. With sufficient funds and interest, Stage 2, the installation of state-of-the-art research facilities for the marine sciences with a new hydraulics layout for a reticulated saltwater aquarium system
(de-salination and UV sterilisation plant; algal scrubbing system) will be a possibility.
